Gentle Counselling Support, Out in the Field

Equine-Assisted Counselling Services

Whatever brought you here, you do not have to work through it alone. At Four Carrots Wellness & Counselling, we partner with you and our horses to get to the root of it together, out in nature on welcoming farms across the Fraser Valley and Metro Vancouver. Take a breath, look around, and let’s start where you are.

How a Session Feels

Not an Office. A Farm.

There is no waiting room here, and no couch. A session with us is a walk and talk in the open air: unhurried, side by side, with a horse grazing nearby. Office counselling works well for many people, and for others something quieter and more natural is what finally lets the words come.

The farm is a safe, forgiving space, and horses have a calming, grounding presence that makes it easier to breathe and be yourself. We meet clients at partner farms in Maple Ridge, Pitt Meadows, and Deroche, so support is never far from home.

Counselling Services for Kids & Adults

Whatever the chief concern, we work with you to get to the root of it. Stress, anxiety, grief, a hard season at home or at work, or something you cannot quite put into words yet: we meet you where you are and move forward together, at your pace. Since 2019, we have walked alongside kids and adults across the Fraser Valley, and our counsellors are registered with the BC Association of Clinical Counsellors and the BC College of Social Workers, so you are in qualified, caring hands from your very first session.

For Children & Teens

Kids’ Counselling That Feels Like a Visit to the Farm

Getting your child into counselling should feel gentle, not like a punishment. With us, a session is a walk and talk on the farm: your child and their counsellor side by side in the fresh air, with a horse for company. Being around the horses helps kids relax and open up in their own time, without pressure or expectation. Because it feels more like a visit to the farm than an appointment, it is an easy, low-stress way to give your child the support they need.

For Adults

Adult Counselling in a Setting That Lets Things Open Up

If you have tried counselling before and it never quite clicked, you are not alone. Sometimes a different setting is what helps things finally open up. Out in the field, alongside a horse, there is no desk between us and no clock ticking on the wall. Conversation comes more naturally when you are moving, breathing fresh air, and standing beside an animal that asks nothing of you except to be present.

Skill-Building with Horses

Equine Assisted Learning

Equine Assisted Learning is hands-on time with horses, with both feet on the ground. Through guided activities such as leading, grooming, and working through simple challenges with your horse as your learning partner, you build confidence, communication skills, and emotional awareness. Sessions are available individually or in a group, so you can choose the setting that feels right for you.

It differs from counselling in a simple way: rather than talk therapy, Equine Assisted Learning focuses on skill-building and personal growth, with the horse as your partner. Horses respond honestly to our body language and energy, so every session offers gentle, immediate feedback you can feel. Equine Assisted Learning suits kids and adults alike, whether you want to grow in self-confidence, practise setting boundaries, become a steadier communicator, or simply understand your own emotions a little better.

Horse Powered Reading

Literacy Support with Horses

Horse Powered Reading is a comprehensive reading program that pairs literacy work with time alongside our horses. If your child struggles with reading, or resists it altogether, the farm takes the pressure off. There are no desks and no report cards here.

Kids move and play, practising reading skills through activities with the horses, and a horse is a wonderfully patient listener who never judges a stumbled word. Session by session, reading starts to feel less like a chore and more like something your child can do, and even enjoy.
